{"id":13530,"date":"2022-10-28T16:40:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-28T14:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fondazionefiladev.ive.ai\/?p=13530"},"modified":"2022-10-24T11:09:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T09:09:44","slug":"behind-the-scenes-inside-the-world-of-stop-motion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fondazionefiladev.ive.ai\/en\/behind-the-scenes-inside-the-world-of-stop-motion\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>BEHIND THE SCENES: INSIDE THE WORLD OF STOP MOTION<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"box-blog\">\n\n<p>\n<strong>FILA clothes are magic.<\/strong> Not only because of their cultural background: in <strong>Eppur si muove<\/strong> (\u2018And Yet It Does Move\u2019), the social event we launched on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube last January, <strong>they literally animate themselves,<\/strong> thanks to the stop motion technique. What is it about?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nStop motion animation is a <strong>cinematic technique<\/strong> similar to that of <strong>cartoons:<\/strong> to create <strong>one second of shooting<\/strong> you have to take <strong>24 photographs<\/strong> that, in rapid succession, suggest a <strong>continuous movement.<\/strong> A specific peculiarity of stop motion is <strong>the animation of objects, puppets, peluches<\/strong> displayed in <strong>proper scenographies.<\/strong> According to what is described in the script, animators change pose and positions from time to time, in order to create fluid moving.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nStop motion history takes us back to the origins of the <strong>cinematic art:<\/strong> at the beginning of the twentieth century French actor, director and illusionist <strong>Georges M\u00e9li\u00e8s<\/strong> (1861-1938) directs <em><strong>Le voyage dans la lune<\/strong><\/em> (1902), where an embryonic example of such technique is used to shoot the iconic scene in which the \u2018face\u2019 of the moon gets close to the audience. Six years later, in 1908, <em><strong>Fantasmagorie<\/strong><\/em> by <strong>Emil Cohl<\/strong> (1857-1938), is recognized as <strong>the first stop motion movie<\/strong> ever, with hundreds of drawings impressed on film and then shot to tell the audience about the new, unexpected possibilities of cinema.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nHowever, it\u2019s the emerging of <strong>animated cinema<\/strong> in the second half of the twenty-first century to give us <strong>refined results:<\/strong> the so-called <strong>\u2018Puppet Animation\u2019<\/strong>, for example, refers to American director <strong>Tim Burton,<\/strong> with films such as <strong>Nightmare Before Christmas<\/strong> (1993) and <strong>The Corpse Bride<\/strong> (2005). <strong>\u2018Claymation\u2019<\/strong> is a neologism to indicate <strong>animated puppets made of clay<\/strong> such as <strong>Wallace and Gromit,<\/strong> the duo invented in 1995 by English director <strong>Nick Park:<\/strong> the movie <strong>Wallace &#038; Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit<\/strong> won an <strong>Oscar<\/strong> as Best Animated Feature Film.   \n<\/p>\n<p>\nIf you love <strong>music videos<\/strong>, in the end, you must absolutely watch gems such as <em><strong>Talking Heads\u2019 Road To Nowhere<\/strong><\/em> (1985, directed by <strong>David Byrne<\/strong>), <em><strong>The End of the World<\/strong><\/em> (2004), performed by <strong>The Cure<\/strong> and directed by <strong>Floria Sigismondi,<\/strong> and <em><strong>The Hardest Button to Button<\/strong><\/em> (2003) by <strong>White Stripes,<\/strong> directed by <strong>Michel Gondry<\/strong> and <strong>celebrated in many different ways<\/strong> (including an unforgettable Simpons episode!).\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAt Fondazione FILA Museum we pay homage to the stop motion tradition with a social event, <em>Eppur si muove<\/em>, in which <strong>clothes and accessories<\/strong> from <strong>different sports and eras<\/strong> animate themselves, and become protagonists of matches, swims and feats that amaze us.\nDid you miss some episodes?
